Let's Pretend This Never Happened.

Hello, I know I haven't done a book blog in a while but it was because we were reading a book for class and it was hard to keep up with two books. The book that I am going to review is called Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson. I first heard about this book from my friend Marissa, who kept laughing out loud while she was reading it. Marissa is not someone who likes to read at all. So when she told me that she liked this book I knew that I had to read it.

This is a "mostly true memoir" about the author Jenny Lawson. This book tells about Jenny's rural upbringing in Texas and her extremely awkward adult life. It starts out with this sentence, "This book is totally true, except for the parts that aren't". If you need a laugh or if you think your life is weird than this is the book for you!

This book has readers laughing from the beginning to the end. Just to give you an idea about this book here are some of the chapters (these are a few of my favorites) "I Was a Three Year Old Arsonist", "Jenkins, You Motherfucker" , "If You Need an Arm Condom, It Might Be Time to Reevaluate Some of Your Life Choices" and "Thanks for the Zombies Jesus". As you can tell by the chapter titles this book is very interesting. What I liked about this book is that the way that she wrote it made it sound like she was talking to the reader. You could really hear the voice while you read this book. As weird as it sounds, I feel that know Jenny and her family because of the way that this book was written.

This is the best book that I have read in a while. Like I said anyone who is looking for a laugh would love this book. Thanks for reading :)

Its a Snow Day!

Hello, this blog will be a little bit off of my topics that I normally stick to which is entertainment. Today I am going to blog about Christmas time and snow days. Today school got cancelled because we had our first big blizzard of the season. I am hoping for at least a two hour delay tomorrow too but we will see. First of all I am going to give you some ideas for how to spend your snow day and winter break...

"First we'll make snow angels for two hours, then we'll go ice skating, then we'll eat a whole roll of Toll-house cookie dough as fast as we can, and then well snuggle." -Elf

Just kidding. I am assuming you have some sort of snow on the ground at this point. I know a lot of people don't get any snow on Christmas, so those people can go lay out by your pool, because you probably aren't having a snow day anyway. For everyone else the first thing that should be done on a snow day is sleep in if possible because well, why not? The next thing that you must do on a snow day is to stay in your pajamas all day because who likes to wear normal clothes? NOT ME!! After you have slept in and have stayed in your pajamas the next thing that you should do is go outside and enjoy the snow. My favorite snow related activities are, sledding, making a snowmen and snow angels, and taking pictures.Keep in mind, it doesn't matter how old you are, you are never too old to make a snow man or frolic in the snow. Anyone can go outside and have fun in the snow.  After playing outside the next best thing to do is get some hot cocoa and watch a movie, preferably a Christmas one. The trick to spending your snow day efficiently is to be as lazy as possible. Here is an example, right now I am writing this wearing sweatpants, a sweatshirt and my snuggie. Writing this blog by the way has been the only productive thing that I have done all day and its GREAT!

One of the best things about Christmas and snow days is watching all of the great movies. I personally like Christmas movies that are funny. Here is a list of must see funny Christmas movies: Elf, Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, Santa Clause and A Christmas Story. ABC family does a really good job with their 25 days of Christmas. I know that have played most of these movies along with many more great Christmas movies.

So the next time you have a snow day just think about some of the tips that I told you in this blog, I guess I better get back to doing nothing. Thanks for reading :)

Say Cheese!

Hello, This blog was inspired by one of my best friends Emily. She asked me why I haven't blogged about pictures or photography yet because I am kind of obsessed. The majority of the time when we hang out we are taking pictures, so why not blog about it?

First of all I will talk about some of the pictures that are really common. Such as Planking this is where people lay on their stomachs and straighten their whole body. Here is an example of a person planking planking picture , I actually found this picture on a website solely dedicated to planking. So if you are looking for more information check that website out. There are also people who take planking to the extreme and plank in the air.

The next type of picture that people are taking are the owling or perching. This is where you bend down like you are a sitting owl. Like planking the weirder the location the better. Here is a picture if you would like to see what owling looks like. owling picture

The next type of picture is a little bit more difficult because you need two people. It is called Horsemaning. This is where one person lays on a surface like a table and hang their head over the side so you don't see their head. Then the other person shows only their head next to their body. It is kind of hard to explain so here is a website with a bunch of pictures of people horsemaning, horsemaning picture.

So, I saw this picture on pintrest and I thought that it was awesome. I haven't gotten the chance to try it but I bet its really hard to do. Here is a picture of the picture if that makes sense. camping picture if this link doesn't work it is a picture of people jumping in sleeping bags.

Those are some of the common pictures that a lot of people are taking these days. If these are too difficult you can always go to the jumping pictures. There are endless possibilities when taking a jumping picture. Although you have to have your camera in the right setting or else you will get a lot of blurry pictures. So if you are ever bored those are some pictures that you could take with some friends. A tip for taking pictures is to use your surroundings as an advantage. That concludes my pictures blog so thanks for reading and let me know if you have any other fun ideas for taking pictures. :)

How Far is too Far?

I'm sure you all have heard about schools trying to get their kids to be more healthy. It is good that schools are trying to incourage a healthy life but how far is too far?

No desserts until friday, baked chips, no pop, and madatory fruit are some of the things that you will find at my school's cafeteria. Lunches cost more if you don't get a fruit or vegetable. The options of chips include various brands of baked chips (everyone knows they aren't the same). In all of the vending machines the only thing available is vitamin water although one of the teachers is known to sell pop. It is understandable with the growing number of obese children.

It doesn't stop at the cafeteria, students are required to take a form of gym all year with other options available. In gym class students are required to wear heart moniters. Students have to keep their heart rate above 140 and below 210 to have the watch start counting minutes. Everyday it is required to have 30 minutes on the clock to get the full number of points for that day. The idea of a way to insure exersize is a good idea but the heart moniter is worn on the skin where a girls bra would end. Not to mention the moniters have to be extremely tight to the body for it to read the correct number. A lot of the time the moniters will not have the correct numbers, it can be hard to get the thirty minutes everyday.

Making students wear a moniter during gym class for a grade is pretty extreme. What happened to the teacher looking around at who is working out and who isn't? It should be required for kids that aren't doing what they should be during gym. So that it encourages kids to work hard. Anyway, thanks for reading :)

Take It All

Hello, So the other night I saw this show and I thought that I should tell you all about it because it is really interesting to watch.

There is a new game show that I saw the other night and it was called Take It All with Howie Mandel as a host. It starts out with five people who compete to get prizes. To stay in the competition they have to choose what prize is not of the lowest cost. So, if the costs of  the prizes were $10,000, $9,000 and $8,000 the contestants  are trying to pick what prize is not the $8,000. Each round if they don't have the lowest cost they get to keep their prize and move on. If they had the lowest prize then they go home with nothing, until it comes down to the last two people. Keep in mind the prizes are things that no one has an idea of the cost.

The last two people each have the prizes that they have already won, in addition to that they both get to pick a card with a large amount of money on them. At this point the contestants can keep what they have or they can take it all. If they both pick keep what I have then they both get to go home with all of their prizes. If one of the players chooses to take it all then that player gets all of their prizes along with all of their opponents (the opponent goes home with nothing). If they both decide to take it all they both go home empty handed. The players are allowed to talk about what they want to do before they choose what they want to do. They are basically trying to get each other to trust each other. In the episode that I saw both of the contestants seemed like they were going to both keep what they had but they ended up both taking it all and going home with nothing.

As you can tell this game gets a little intense. I would not want to play this game because I have no idea what I would do. I thought that this game was really different because it kind of tests the players character and morality. It shows how greedy people can be and that is really interesting to watch. I also thought that it was kind of outrageous because of the costs of the prizes, they were crazy expensive and rare.

All in all it is a pretty good show because it deals with a lot of strategic thinking. My family and I found it really interesting. If you have any other shows that I should watch let me know! Thanks for reading :)

Scary Movies That You Haven't Heard Of

Hello,  Recently I have been in the mood for scary movies, this blog will be about scary movies that you probably haven't heard about. (all of these movies can be found on Netflix). I will give you a quick summary about each movie and then do a review of what I thought about the movies.

The first movie is called Nine Dead. I first saw this movie with my friends and later showed it to my brother. It is about nine people that find themselves chained up in the same room with a man threatening to kill one of them every 10 minutes. All that the masked person told them is that they need to find out why each one of them is here. All of the people seem to have nothing in common except for one very important thing that they need to find out before 10 minutes are up. All nine people are related in one way and that thing got them where they are now: chained up in a room.

First of all this movie is really gory. Watching this movie was weird to me because I liked the ending but I also kind of hated it at the same time. I liked how you got to find out why this guy was doing this to these people but I hated how it left you hanging. This movie makes you think about the way that you treat other people because that is how the nine people got into that predicament to begin with.

The next movie is called Elevator. This movie is about a group of people that are going to a dinner party, only the elevator gets stuck. If that isn't bad enough, one of the passengers has a bomb. One of the other passengers also happens to be the host of the party and the owner of the company having the party. With all of the stress and anxiety one of the passengers has a heart attack and dies. Only this is the same person who has the bomb. So the rest of the people have to find a way to get out of the elevator before the bomb goes off.

This movie is also really gory. The characters in this movie made me like it a lot. One of the characters is a comedian and he was really funny because he was claustrophobic. I however found my self yelling at one of the characters (the little girl) because it was her fault that the elevator stopped in the first place. Anyway I thought that this movie war pretty good, some people might say that it is a bit unrealistic though.

The next movie that I am going to talk about is called Identity. This movie was under the psychological thrillers section of Netflix. It is about ten strangers that find themselves stuck at a motel, they end up finding out that they are dying one by one.
This movie is hard to understand unless I tell you how it ends so, SPOILER ALERT!!
Okay so these people end up discovering that they are dying one by one. All the while we are getting flashbacks to a man being tried the day before his execution for numerous murders. We find out that the murderer has multiple identity disorder. Meaning that he has created all of the people in his mind. The reason that they all are dying is because in the real world a psychiatrist is helping him in order to convince the judge that he is insane.

This movie was really good. I watched it with my Brother and Mom and they both really liked it. It had a good mystery and surprise element to it. I would recommend it to anyone that likes thrillers but especially someone who is interested in psychology.

This concludes my "scary-movies-that-you-haven't-heard-of-before-blog". Let me know if you have already seen these movies or if you end up watching them. Thanks for reading! :)

Distractions

Hello, last night I found myself watching the ending of Elf and right after that,  the begining of Home Alone, all while painting my nails. This is all happening while my homework is sitting in my room waiting for me to come and finish it. It is like right now, instead of blogging I could be on Pintrest or some other social network. We had a half day yesterday and I endend up getting all of my homework done but there is always something school related that I could be doing.

I think that distractions like these are why alot of kids don't end up getting their homework done. I am not saying that people shouldn't do their homework. The most important task that kids need to learn before going in to High School is time management. They need to understand that they have to do their homework and then they can do whatever they want. The most successful kids know that they need to work hard at it. I guess my point is that everyone has things that they would rather be doing instead of math homework but don't be a procrastinator.

So get off of your computer and do your homework! Thanks for reading:)

What I Did Over Thanksgiving Break

Hello Everyone, What did I do over thanksgiving break? I went to movies of course! This blog will be about some of the movies that  I saw during Thanksgiving break. The first movie that  I saw was The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

This movie is about a high school kid that is a loner in that he stays at home every weekend and doesn't have any friends. When the movie starts the main character is entering high school and as we all know that can be pretty scary. Eventually two seniors end up becoming his first real friends. They introduce him to everything that he has been missing in life. All through out the movie the main character is having flash backs and there is numerous references to an "incident" that happened when he was younger. I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone so that is all that  I am going to tell you about what happens.

I thought that this movie was very good. I am a huge Emma Watson fan and I love the role that she plays in this movie. I went to see this movie with my friend Emily who is also a junior in high school, we both thought that this movie was very relate able. At one point we were both in tears while we watched this movie and you know what they say "a good movie will make ya cry". Surprisingly, this movie has a lot of psychology in it, last year my in psych class we got to watch a movie and do a project on it and this movie would be perfect for something like that.

The next movie that I saw over break was Trouble With the Curve. This movie is about a baseball scout who is getting to the retirement age but he refuses to admit it to himself. Everyone tells him that he is too old for doing this anymore. We then meet his successful daughter who has a troubled relationship with her Dad. He ends up taking his daughter along with him on one of the recruits even though he really didn't want to. Again, I don't to tell you too much so that is it for my summary.

I'm going to be honest, I didn't want to see this movie when it came out because I thought that it would be too sad. My brother and I went to it on Thanksgiving day because we both like baseball. On that subject, this movie has a lot of baseball references in it. I liked all of the actors in this movie and I liked how it had a good story. However it was sad and I think that people that are older would relate to this movie more than we could. Overall I liked this movie and would recommend it to people who are a little bit older than myself.

I think that sums up what I was doing over Thanksgiving break. As always, let me know what your opinions are about these movies. Thank you for reading :)

Kids These Days

Hello Everyone, I hope you all had a good weekend. I actually had a really good time this weekend because if you remember in one of my other blogs, I told you about the kids that I babysit. Well this weekend I brought the kids over to my house and we watched polar express with my parents. During the movie we had hot cocoa and cookies the best part was that after the movie when the kids put on their coats they found bells in their pockets. Just like in the movie. It was really fun to see their faces and to enjoy being young again with them. By the way if you haven't seen Polar Express, it is a really good movie with a great message. We told them that it must have been Santa that put the bells in their pockets and when we got back to their house they took turns writing thank-you letters to Santa.

It is really fun to do things like that with young kids because it has been along time since my brother and I were that age. Kids today grow up so fast, with all of this technology that we never had growing up. I know that even my generation is really advanced compared to my parents but kids these days are crazy. By crazy I  am referring to their dependence on technology. Here is an example: (this is a 100% true story) This Thanksgiving my cousins came in to town with their 6 year old son to visit. The big talk was about how my 6 year old cousin recently got an iPhone from his parents! HE IS ONLY 6!! Who is he going to be calling? His parents said that he could only keep the phone at home and the only people that he could call are his parents.   Does anyone else see the irony in this? If he is at home why would he be needing to call his parents and why wouldn't he use a house phone? He should be outside playing with friends not playing with his iPhone. While they were in town I noticed how differently he is growing up compared to my brother and I.

When my Brother and I were growing up we were outside all of the time, we loved running around and playing sports. Now kids are staying inside watching T.V, playing video games or playing on their i Phones. Kids need to be out playing with other kids without technology. This idea is one of the messages in the movie Grown Ups. In the movie Adam Sandler discovers how their kids depend on their nanny to do things for them and how they spend most of their time on their phones or video games. So when they go on a trip with Adam's friends from school, he forces the kids to get outside to enjoy nature. I can really relate to this movie because I find that I like to get away from everything once in a while and just be a kid again.

Anyway, I guess my point is that we need to force ourselves to remember what is important in life. If you haven't seen Polar Express or Grown Ups, I would highly recommend them to you. Thanks for reading :)

A Stolen Life

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving. It was great to have a week of relaxation from everything, I know that I was in desperate need of a break. Coming back to school was hard as always but at least at my school we are starting a new trimester. Anyway, sorry about not posting recently. In my Language Arts class we were focusing on the final and our portfolios.

This blog will be about a book that I recently finished, it is called A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard. I have been looking for a way to challenge myself when picking out books and reading. Someone in my class gave a book talk about this book and I thought that it would be a good challenge for me. For those of you who haven't heard about Jaycee's story, she was kidnapped at age 11 and held captive for 18 years until she was finally discovered. She was hidden in the man's backyard in the shed. What was so astonishing about her story is that this man was on parole for the kidnapping of another girl and parole officers were frequently visiting the house. He would rape her all of the time resulting in two children. Jaycee had her first daughter at age 14. Overall the book is just about her experiences and how she survived.

I remember hearing about it all over the news when they found her and then that she had written a book about her experiences. I knew that when I heard this that I wanted to read that book, I had no idea how hard it would be though. This book was challenging for me to read in a few ways. First of all it is hard to read about something that actually happened and was so horrible. It was hard to imagine such horrible conditions and it was also kind of scary. I had a hard time relating to it because I have nothing to compare what she went through to my life. The other way that it was challenging for me was that I am not used to reading books that are autobiography's  although I think that I will try to read more books like that. I would recommend this book to people that are old enough for this material but I think that it is a good book because it made me think about how lucky I am. Thanks for reading! :)

A Hope in the Unseen

We are reading the book, A Hope in the Unseen in my language arts class. We were asked a question about the book and we are supposed to blog about what we feel the answer is. So to start this off I will tell you a little bit about the book.
The main character's name is Cedric, he is a junior in High School. The setting of the book is Ballou High School in Washington D.C, which is a school that the majority of the students are underprivileged. Cedric is at the top of his class which makes him a target at school. A lot of the kids give him a hard time because he cares about school and does very well. He tries to be proud of his grades but it is hard for him because of the way that the other kids treat him. For example, at this school they award kids with $100 for having straight A's for a trimester. There is a school wide assembly to award these kids but it does not go over well with the rest of the school. Cedric doesn't even attend the Assembly because he didn't want all of that negative attention from his whole school. So that is a little background about this book, hopefully that will help you understand what I am talking about.

My teacher asked us to compare the way that bight students learn to be unnoticed at Cedric's school and how things are at my school. I go to Kennedy High School which is a big school in a pretty good neighborhood. There are some underprivileged kids that go to my school but in no way is that the majority of students. I can relate to Cedric's situation because I have been on both ends of award receiving. I have been recognized for my academic successes but I have also been that kid that didn't get a T-shirt at the assembly and it doesn't feel very good. At my school people make fun of kids that get straight A's but from my experience it is either out of jealousy or they are joking. There is no yelling or bullying compared to Cedric's school. I think that there is so much of a difference between Cedric's School and the school that I go to because of the amount of people that get awards and the types of students at our schools. Due to the fact that my school is really big, there are a lot of kids that get awards and recognition for good grades. I don't think that students at my school are ashamed or scared to accept an award like in Cedric's situation.

So, if you go to a school like the one that I go to or one like Cedric's you should still be proud of yourself and don't be afraid of recognition for your hard work. I understand that not all schools are as nice as mine is, in that some kids can be putting themselves in danger by standing out but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't work hard. Thanks for reading! :)

Pet Peeve

Hello,

This blog will be about my biggest pet peeve. I hate it when people eat loudly. Example: when eating chips it is not necessary to crunch them loudly for everyone else in the general vicinity to hear.  This brings up the question, why do the people that make chips make them so big? No one can fit them in to their mouth, so why make them that size? Another thing that I hate is when people bang their silverware against their plate or bowl. It is not necessary if you want more food go get more don’t sit there and scrape your plate until it is all gone.

We have a T.V in our kitchen just so we have noise when no one is talking. I know that some people say that having a T.V is bad because we need to be having family time but we can have family time without listening to each other eat.

My parents were strict about this when I grew up so now I think that I inherited it from them. My mom used to babysit these kids when I was younger and one of the kids would not close his mouth when he ate. So my mom got out a mirror and made him watch himself eat. From then on he was pretty good about keeping his mouth closed when he ate.

I understand if you think that my pet peeve is weird but the next time you are crunching down on those chips stop and think if everyone around you wants to hear that. Thanks for reading! J

New Book

Hello,
I am reading a new book called The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf. It is about two little girls that go missing in the middle of the night. The interesting thing is that one of the girls doesn’t talk. Callie, who is about 7 years old stopped talking when she was 4 years old. Her best friend Petra is her communicator. They can pretty much read each other’s minds.

Last night when I was reading this book it was hard to put down because it is so intense. This is one of those books that each chapter is written from the perspective from a different character. Sometimes this can be confusing but I think that it was the right choice for this book. One thing that I noticed was that all of the characters have really interesting names. Here are some examples: Fielda, Petra, Griff, Antonia, Callie. That is just something that I noticed when I was reading. At the point that I am at in this book it is kind of hard to imagine because of the content. So if you have a problem with things that aren’t “nice and happy” then I wouldn’t recommend this book for you.

That is just an update on where I am with reading this book, I will let you know if I like the ending. Thanks for reading

Funny Movies

Hello, Today I am in an exceptionally good mood therefore this blog will be about some of my favorite comedies.

First of all my preference for funny movies is slap stick humor. I just thought that I should let you know that before I start talking about these movies because some people will think that these movies are not good. For example my cousin’s wife hates all funny movies. Isn't that crazy? It was last Christmas that I found out about this because I wanted to watch Elf. This is one of the best Christmas movies of all time, in my opinion. She said that she thought it was stupid and not funny. I was shocked. I mean who doesn't like to laugh at movies? She also hates Will Ferrell, I don’t know how I can associate myself with someone that doesn't like Will Ferrell. He is one of the best comedians of all time. I love every movie that he is in, I pretty much worship him. I think that I will dedicate one whole blog to Will Ferrell in the near future.

Anyway, speaking of Will Ferrell my family’s favorite movie is Step Brothers. This movie is about two boys whose parents decide to get married. The only problem is that both of the boys are 40 years old and still live at home. The best part about this movie is how immature these guys are. They play with light sabers from Star Wars and they build bunk beds so “they can have more room for activities”. There are so many quotable moments from Step Brothers. My brother and I tell my mom that "as soon as she is of age we are putting her in a home" and every time we give each other a hug it is always that awkward air hug that they do in the movie. One bad thing about this movie is that it can be awkward at times with your parents because of the sexual moments and there is momentary nudity. Other than that this movie is really funny. If you haven't seen this movie and you are a person that likes comedies than I would highly recommend this for you.

The next movie is an older one and this one is so slap stick that at times it is just stupid, this movie is called Little Nicky, starring Adam Sandler. This movie is about the devils son (Adam Sandler) trying to keep his brothers from taking over Hell. If that isn't enticing enough there is a talking dog and what movie that has a talking dog isn't good? This is an older movie so some of the graphics aren’t very good but it is still really funny. This is not a movie that I would watch with any young children. I know that this movie is on the mailing list for Netflix, so go watch this movie if you like extreme slapstick.

Next up, is Bridesmaids. This movie is about a girl whose life is at a downward spiral while her best friend is getting married and having a good life. Bridesmaids has one of those stand out characters that makes the movie really good and in this case that character is Megan (Melissa McCarthy). This is also the big debut of Rebel Wilson who was recently in Pitch Perfect. Bridesmaids is a really popular movie. I noticed this today in Language Arts because my teacher plays music while we all come in to class and today it was Hold On by Wilson Phillips. You wouldn't believe how many people walked in and said "Hey this is from Bridesmaids!". My classmates and I automatically thought of this movie when we heard this song. One thing that I thought that wasn't amazing about this movie was that at times I was kind of sad because everything went wrong for the main characters life and it was kind of sad to see her life spiral downward. But then something happened that made me start laughing so it worked out.

These are just some of my favorite funny movies. I know that I am only scratching the surface of funny movies, so I will have continuation of this blog. If you have any suggestions for movies that you think that I would like based on these movies please let me know. Thanks for reading! :)

Don't Knock It Until You've Tried It

Hello, I realized that I haven't had a blog about fashion in while so that is what this blog will be about.

It is that time of year where you have to start thinking about winter-ish clothes especially if you are from anywhere in the midwest. One of my favorite fall outfits is a pair of yoga pants with a sweatshirt. I dont understand why people think that yoga pants and leggings are so contorversial. Especially because most of the people that hate on yoga pants are men. They probalby haven't even tried them on therefore they can not criticize girls for wearing them. The point of them is that they are comfortable so if you would like to critize them then you have to at least try them on. This reminds me of one of Jenna Marbles videos because it is about a man who criticizes women in the olymipics wearing sports bras. If you search Jenna Marbles olympics it will come up. The moral of the story is don't hate on something if you havent tried it before. Thanks for reading!

Pet Semetary

Hello everyone, I finally finished the book that I was reading. It is called Pet Semetary by Stephen King. So I will give you a summary and a review of the book.

This book is about a family that moves from a big city to a small town. The main character is a middle aged man named Louis. He has a wife and two young children, Gage and Ellie. Upon arriving at their new house they notice that their front yard is home to one of the busiest roads in the city. At all hours there are huge semis that speed down the street. They also meet their elderly neighbors, Jud and Norma. Jud and Louis become good friends and end up spending a lot of time together. Jud takes the family on a walk through the woods behind their new house. The path leads to an old cemetery where all of the neighborhood kids buried their pets. A lot of whom were killed by the road in front of the Creeds house. A few days after the trip to the cemetery the family cat, Church is run over in the road while Louis was home by himself. Jud has Louis put the cat in a bag and bring a shovel to go bury the cat. Along the way Louis realizes that Jud isn't taking him to the pet cemetery but somewhere beyond that on the trail. To get to this place they have to walk across dead trees and climb stairs. Jud is telling Louis about the old Indians that used this area as a burial ground. This was no ordinary place though because when someone buries something their it comes back to life. I think that is a good place to leave off my summary because I don't want to give you too much information.

This book had some unexpected moments that made it really interesting. I always read before I go to bed as you can imagine this book left me with some frightening images. I was pleasantly surprised while reading this book because it was scary. This the first book that I read that was scary, so I wasn't sure if it was going to be as scary as watching a movie. Speaking of movies, this movie was actually on T.V this weekend. I didn't have time to watch it but  I recorded it so I can watch it when I have more time. I also just found out that there is a sequel to the movie. Anyway this movie has some parts that made me tear up and parts that gave me bad dreams. This book is not for the faint of heart, there is a lot of graphic scenes and the whole idea is disturbing. Stephen King himself said that he wrote this book and put it in his desk because he thought it was too scary. He ended up taking it out a few years later and publishing it.

If you have seen the movies or read the book leave me a comment. I am also looking for another Stephen King book to read if you have any recommendations. Thanks for reading! :)

Here Comes the Boom

Hello, So I have another movie summary and review for you all today. I know I have no life, I have been to three movies in the past week. Anyway the movie that I will be talking about today is Here Comes the Boom.
I will give a short summary for those who haven’t heard of this movie. It is about a school that has to make cuts to their budget specifically the music program at their school. They have to get rid of the whole music department in order to save money. One biology teacher (Mr. Voss) who is kind of a slacker when it comes to teaching, decides that this can’t happen because of the impact that music has on students and is going to come up with the $50,000. The way that he decides to do this is by becoming a mixed martial arts fighter.
Before going to the movie I had heard a lot about it. A few days before Kevin James was on Ellen. What I learned about this movie from watching Ellen is that he actually wrote the movie and then decided that he had to play this character. In the movie the main character gets into a lot of fights and gets beat up pretty bad. Kevin had to lose a lot of weight for the movie and after knowing that, I could tell that he had dropped a few pounds.
I wasn’t planning on seeing this movie when I did; it was a sort of last minute thing. I remember seeing the commercials during the other two movies that I have recently seen in the theatre and I thought it looked good. I was a little apprehensive because I don’t like wrestling or fighting but I ended up really enjoying it. I don’t think that the commercials do this movie justice.  I was extremely surprised by this movie, in a good way. This movie has a little bit of everything, it’s funny, sad and inspiring. This is one of those movies that make you want to go out and make a difference in the world. Another thing that I liked about this movie is that it tied everything together at the end. Even with the smaller characters, at the end it shows what happens to them.  My brother said that he thought that it would be funnier but I have to disagree. It had the right amount of comedy because the topic is not a light one. School budgets are a big deal and are a current issue in America. I think that it had its funny parts but it wasn’t over bearing. Lastly there is a Journey reference and in my book any movie that references that band is a good movie.
Overall this is a great family friendly movie that inspires people. If you are looking for a good movie I would highly recommend this movie, especially if you like things like mixed martial arts. If you end up going to see this movie leave me a comment on what you thought about it. Thanks for reading J

Duck Dynasty

Hey, So this blog is going to be about one of my favorite shows that no one knows about, it is called Duck Dynasty. It is a reality show about this family of rednecks that also happen to be millionaires. They got their millions from creating duck calls. It sounds really weird and something that a teenage girl wouldn’t like but it is really funny. One minute they are messing around in the woods and the next they are being whisked away in a helicopter to go to a meeting. They have southern accents and that makes it all better.  Oh, one interesting thing about this family is that all of the men grow long beards that don’t trim. As you can imagine this adds to the whole redneck theme that they have going. The funny part is all of the men have these good looking women as their wives. The part that I like the best is that they are just a family trying to run a business. At the end of the show it is always at their family dinners and they review the lessons that they learned. My favorite person is Si, he lives in his own little world and is really funny. When I say that I mean that he makes up his own words and says things that leave you saying “what did he just say?”.
Overall this is an amazing show and I know it might sound weird to some people but it is really good. It is on A&E if you decide to watch it. Thanks for reading

Pitch Perfect

Hey everyone, so the other day my family and I went to the new movie, Pitch Perfect. This blog will be a review and summary of the movie.
For those of you that haven’t heard about this movie, it is about a college girl that joins an acapella group. The whole movie is about the group of girls vs. the group of boys that are both trying to win the same competition. The girls’ team is a bunch of talented misfits that want to be a part of something during college. The best part about this movie is the character, Fat Amy. She makes this movie hilarious, if this character wasn’t a part of this movie it wouldn’t be the same. She has an amazing accent that makes everything she says even better. Another thing that I really enjoyed about this movie is the singing that they did. It was really cool because they took different types of songs and made them acapella. If you enjoy musical shows than I think that you would really like this movie because of the way that music is used in this movie. One subject that kept reoccurring was the movie Breakfast Club which is one of the best movies ever. If you haven’t seen that movie go watch it because it is a classic and then you will understand the references made during the movie.
One thing that disappointed me about this movie is that during the commercials for this movie there were some really funny scenes that weren’t in the movie. The end was also kind of predictable; when you watch it you will know what I mean. There were also a few parts that were just gross, again if you watch the movie you will know what I mean. Just a heads up, there was some sexual refrences during the movie that was kind of awkward with my parents. It wasn’t too bad and don’t let that stop you from seeing this movie. Other than those small things, my family and I really enjoyed this movie and would recommend it. Some of my friends have seen it and they thought that it was really good too. In my opinion the good things about this movie outweigh the bad things. So if you like comedies than I you should put this on the top of your list to see. Thanks for reading J

Halloween

Hello, I’m sure that you all have noticed that it is that time of year again. The leaves are changing, horror movies are playing, and the Halloween section of Walmart will be crammed with people from now until the end of the month. I love Halloween more than most people because it just happens to also be my birthday.
This will be a blog about all of those scary movies that everyone loves. To get things started lets talk about 13 nights of Halloween on ABC family. Being a junior in high school it may seem weird that I still get excited about this but I have no shame.  Although I like the classic movies, not all of these weird animated Halloween movies. That seems to be the new trend in Halloween family movies but I am not a fan. My all time favorite Halloween movie is Hocus Pocus. I have always loved this movie, when I was younger I would pretend to be one of the witches from the movie. Another one of my favorite family Halloween movies is of course Halloweentown. I mean who doesn’t like this movie? It is one of the best movies that I have ever seen on Disney channel. Even the sequel is good which says something because it isn’t very likely that the second movie is anywhere near as good as the first.
The other type of Halloween movies that are awesome is all of the horror movies that they play on SyFy. AMC also plays a lot of good Halloween movies. I like that these channels play the classic movies like Freddy and Jason but they also play newer movies too. I remember the first horror movie that I ever saw, it was called The Strangers. It is about these couple that goes to stay at their cabin but some unexpected guests show up and cause trouble. The murderers are wearing masks, that adds to the creepiness. Anyway it freaked me out but it also made me was to keep watching scary movies. One of the best older movies that I have seen is The Shining. As many of you probably know this movie is one of the most famous horror movies of all time.
There is another type of horror movies that are out there and they are the “based on real events” movies. The Paranormal Activity movies are pretty popular because they have a sense of reality to them. Some people are really freaked out by these kinds of movies and some people think that they are dumb. I just saw a commercial for another movie in the Paranormal Activity series but I forgot the name of it. There are also numerous shows on tv like Ghost Hunters or Scariest Places on Earth. Ghost Hunters is about a group that goes around and stays at supposedly haunted places and deems them haunted or not. It is a good show because they go in with the mindset that the place is not haunted so they prove it. Scariest places on earth is pretty self explanatory, it is list of the scariest places on earth.
Okay, so I don’t know if it is just me or if it is because my name is Katie but it seems that it is used in just about every scary movie. I know that it is in Paranormal Activity and it is in some other ones that I can’t remember. Anyway I guess this concludes my blog about Halloween. Thanks for readingJ

I'm In A Hurry

Hello everyone, Right now I am blogging to you while babysitting because I have been working non stop and have absolutely no time to do my homework. This is a problem because I am taking two AP classes and am holding down two jobs. I feel very overwhelmed at times because I have so much to do and so little time. I think that a lot of people can relate to this, especially in this time period.

Thinking about this reminds me of this song that I remember my dad showed me when I was younger. It is called I'm In a Hurry by Alabama it is a relatively older song. Here is a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6slibTD9MF0. This song is a song that has one of the best meanings that I have ever heard. I think that everyone NEEDS to listen to this song because I can't think of anyone that this doesn't relate to. It asks the question "why do we hurry through life?". One of the lines that speaks to me is "Oh, I rush and rush until life's no fun". I remember my Dad talking about he does this and how important the message is but I blew it off because I was so young. Now, as a Junior in High School I can relate to this song on a whole new level.

I think that a lot of the reason as to why we are like this is because of the time period that we live in. If you go to the grocery store just stop and look around at people and count how many are in a hurry. It is mind blowing. Even by looking at where and how we eat our food. We have fast food restaurants because we are in too big of hurry to wait for our food and we eat while doing other things, such as driving. Admit it, we have all tried to stuff food in our mouths while trying to drive. People these days do just about anything while driving because they don't want to be late to where ever they are rushing off to.

So the moral of the story is, to ask ourselves why are we in such a rush through life? And to stop trying to stuff a big mac in our mouth's while driving. Everyday we are rushing to get to work or school. Sometimes we forget to stop and live in the moment. How many times do find yourself thinking more  about the future than what is happening in the moment? I know that I am going to try to live in the moment more.

Thanks for reading, and remember to slow down, enjoy your life.

Children Movies

Hello everyone, I can't remember if I have already told you but I babysit every Friday and Saturday night for a family with four kids. Hanging out with kids all of the time has taught me some things. It took some getting used to because I only have a brother who is 13. So we are pretty grown up compared to the kids that I babysit. Anyway last night I went to the movie Hotel Transylvania with the kids.

Watching a movie that is intended for a younger audience is a different experience if you have never done it before. Being older, you pick up on some of the innuendos and things that the kids aren't supposed to understand. Yesterday at the movie I noticed that some of the jokes were interpreted differently depending on how old the person was. There was some jokes that you could tell that just the kids laughed at and some that you could tell that the parents enjoyed too.

That is one of the things that I really enjoyed about this movie. I actually thought that this movie was pretty good (I normally don't like animated kids movies). It dragged on at parts in my opinion but overall it was good. The kids seemed to really enjoy it and looking around at the people that were there, I would say that kids no younger than 5 would really get a kick out of this movie. So if you have kids that you know they might like this movie. It was about Halloween but was not scary which was nice because some times movies that are intended for kids end up being scarier for the kids than originally thought.

On a kind of unrelated note, what has happened to the portion sizes at the movie theatres? Last night I got the kids each a kids popcorn box, that comes with popcorn, a fruit snack, and a pop. I got a small popcorn for my self and I was shocked by how much it was. I couldn't even finish half of it. I felt like it was a super sized popcorn or something but it was just a small! This is why America is getting fatter. When I ask for a small popcorn  I would like a portion size that is accurate! Is that too much to ask for? I know most people would be like "why are you mad that you got more that what you paid for" but that is my reaction on that topic.

Thanks for reading:)

Bogo

This blog will be deviating from my normal topics that I blog about because everyone likes a little bit of a change right? This blog will be about my dog Bogo (my friend Gabby inspired this blog). It will be the story of how we got my dog. Bogo is one of my best friends as lame as it sounds and this is the story of how we met.
It was around christmas time in 2008 when my brother and I came up with a plan. We were going to only ask for a puppy for christmas. We had asked our parents numerous times if we could get a dog but the answer was always "someday we will get another dog". We had a yellow lab named Buster that died at the age of 13, when I was in Kindergarten. I think that the reason that my parents didn't want to get us another dog was because they were still thinking about Buster. Anyway it was about 2 weeks before christmas and my Mom and Dad came home and told us to go downstairs and turn on the TV with the volume up loud. This was an odd request so I knew something was up. They finnaly told us to come upstairs and we saw a rather large box with a blanket over the top. They told us that we had a early christmas present to open. From that moment on my life has never been the same. In that moment we met our new puppy. We were so suprised because of the timing, we had a good two weeks before christmas. The reason why my parents decided to do it early was because they were keeping him at my Grandmas house and he was getting too big. When we got him his name was Casper but for some reason that I can't remember I decided to name him Bogo.
This concludes the story of how we got my dog Bogo. Im sorry if this isn't as exciting as most of my blogs but I told Gabby that I would do it. Thanks for reading! :)

New Book and Netflix Movie

Hello everyone, this blog will be a little bit of everything again. Sorry, I am just really indecisive today.

Just to let you all know the book that I am currently reading and will most likely be blogging about is Pet Semetary by Stephen King. I have never read one of his books before and so far I think that it is really good. One of the kids in my class gave a book talk about it and it sounded interesting. I have always wanted to read one of his books because they are so famous. I am very interested to see if the book is scary. I think that there is a movie to go along with the book so when I am done with the book I am definatly going to watch the movie. When I was checking the book out of the library the librarian at my school told me that they are comming out with a sequel to the Shining. So of course I had to do some research and from what I have gathered it is comming out fall of 2013. I can't wait to find out more about it and when I do I will let you all know.

Oh, I keep forgetting to blog about this movie that I watched on netflix called Timer. It is one of those movies that you have never heard about before but it is on netflix. The movie is about this futuristic world where there is a timer that you can have injected in to your arm that tells you when you will meet your soul mate. Once you get the timer in your arm it will turn on when your partner gets one so there is a possiblity that you get a timer and you still don't know when you will meet your soul mate. The timer stops counting down the night before you find the other person and then it will say zero. When you see them it will make a little chime noise so you know who it is. In the movie there are two sisters both of whom have one of these timers. One of them has a long time until they meet their soul mate. The other sister got hers at the same time and it still hasen't litten up which means that her soul mate hasn't gotten one yet. So she tries to go out and meet timerless guys and makes them get a timer to see if they are a match. That is pretty much the plot of this movie.

The way that I heard about this movie was one of my friends had watched it. The first time I tried to watch it I fell asleep. I didn't fall asleep because of the movie by the way I am just lame and normally go to bed earlier than most people. Over all I really liked the movie it was interesting to see who they were going to fall in love with eventually. If you want to try out a new movie that has a little futuristic feel to it I would recomend this movie to you. Let me know if you end up watching it and what your oppinion of it was. Thanks for reading! :)

Taken For Granted

Hello everyone today I blogging to you from my Dad's office computers because my computer at home is currently being repaired. Having this happen it makes me appreciate having internet access a home. Internet is everywhere now, on tv, on your phone and on your computer. These days internet is taking over everything. I guess all that I am getting at here is that you shouldn't take things for granted because you never know what you have until it's gone.
One of the biggest things that the internet has given us is the ability to watch movies and tv shows instantly on websites like netflix. I love the whole idea that you can watch as many movies as you want for one monthly rate. One of my favorite things to do in my free time is search netflix for a new movie to watch. I love how there are a lot of different categories that you can choose from. I have found a lot of new movies that I haven't ever heard of before.
There is always those lovely social networking sites that we all love. Everyone now a days has either a facebook, twitter or instagram. These sites are good in that they allow you to connect with friends but there have been alot of negative concequences such as bullying. So like everything in life there is some positive and negative results.
Anyway, the lesson that I learned for from this experience is that I am going to try to not take things for  granted anymore. Thank you for reading! :)

The Help

Hey everyone, guess what?! I finished reading the Help! So, this blog will be what I thought about the book and a quick summary.
To start it off I will tell you about what the book is about. It dated in the 1960's and is about slavery. I would typically not even think about reading this book because I don't like reading historical books if I don't have to but this book was very good. The narrator switches throughout the book between 2 maids and one white woman. This way you get a peak of each of their lives as the book progresses. The first maid's name is Abileen, she is a quiet, older woman that is very experienced in being a maid. Her best friend Minny is the other maid, she is very out spoken. Minny says what is on her mind and sometimes that can be a bad thing. The other narrator is Miss. Skeeter who is a young white woman trying to figure out who she is. Miss. Skeeter decides to write a book about what life is like for maids, calling it the Help. The book is about their them writing the book and trying to survive in this time period. I don't want to tell you much more than that because I don't want to ruin the book if you haven't read it yet.
I thought that the book was very good. I found myself staying up at night reading it to see what would happen. I'am excited to see the movie because I liked the book so much. I thought that the way that the book was written made you understand both sides of the conflicts. It also showed how bad things were back then for slaves. It was crazy to see how they were treated by the white women who stayed around their house all day doing nothing while the maids were doing all of their work. I couldn't imagine having to do that or being the person sitting around watching someone else do all of that work. One of the women that the maids has to take care of ends up raising her kids more than the Mom does. This book was kind of eye opening because you always hear about the slaves that were on the plantations and working in the fields but not as much as the maids. I thought that they did a really good job with making it interesting and fun to read for anyone, not just history fans.
I don't know if I have already told you this but I like books and movies that are sort of emotinal and that is exactly what this book had. When I say that I really mean a book or movie that is so good that you can relate to it or you feel the pain that the characters are feeling. This book almost had me crying but I managed to get through it. The whole topic of this book is a rather sad thing because of the way that things happend in that time period compared to today.
Anyway, if you haven't read this book yet I would highly recomend it for you even if you are a little skeptical. Let me know if you decide to read it and what your thoughts are. Thanks for reading :)

New iphone

Hey everyone, I guess I should talk about the new iphone 5 that just came out this week. I am not an i phone user so I don't have a lot of information or experience with them but oh well. One thing that I hate about not being an i phone user is that all of the cute accessories for phones are only for iphones. Another thing that kind of sucks about not having an iphone is where is the android siri? Just because I don't have an iphone doesn't mean that I don't want someone answering all of my questions. So if you know of an app for android phones similar to siri for iphones let me know. It seems to me that the iphone has all of the better apps. I don't even know what is supposed to be so much better than the old iphone compared to this one. There is an awesome YouTube video called Jimmy Kimmel first look: iphone 5. They show people the new iphone and ask them what they think about it compared to the old one but the thing is it is really just the same old iphone. So people who have the exact same phone that they are shown say how different it is than the old one. It is really funny so be sure to check it out.
Okay, so enough of my ranting about the iphone. I want to give you a quick update on what my plans are for this blog in the near future. I am almost done with the book "The Help" so I will give you a review on that. I am going to the new movie coming out soon called Pitch Perfect. (it looks really funny and I can't wait to see it). I also want to talk about movies that you probably haven't heard of but are on netflix and give a review of them. So there is the list of things that I will be blogging about soon. I will also keep an update going about all of my favorite tv shows. Thanks for reading! :)

Having a Bad Day?

Hey everyone, I hope you all are having a wonderfull day. If not I am going to show you some really funny videos on Youtube that will deffinatly cheer you up.

I don't think that I have mentioned this yet but I love to watch funny videos on youtube. My Friend Emily and I always seem to end up doing that whenever we hangout. So I am going to share some of my favorites with you. First of all there are the videos that are of people falling down or getting hurt. For some reason those turn out to be some of the funniest viedos. The first video of someone getting hurt is called the Channing Show and it is about this little girl that is having a stuffed animal show but her closet door ends up falling right on her head. Here is a  link for it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1lauHGBx7c. The second one is called Single Ladies Gone Wrong. It is about these two women dancing to the song Single Ladies by beyonce. Why one of them is wearing a clown mask? I don't know but it almost adds to the whole video. Here is a link for this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN5YbfFszlI. The Last viedo of people getting hurt is called You Forgot The Blueberries. This video was originly of these two adorable little girls making a fruit salad but the younger girl makes sure that her sister doesn't forget the blueberries and it all goes down hill. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqEeP1acj4Y that is the link for this video if you want to watch it which I highly recomend.
There is another category of funny youtube videos that I am going to talk about and it is the people that have a series of shows that come out periodically. A really famous example of this is Jenna Marbles. Her videos come out every Wednesday and they are about things that we are all thinking but don't say. Her most famous video is called How to Avoid People That You Don't Want to Talk to. So if you are going to start watching her videos I would start there. The thing that makes her videos so funny is her personality and the way that she always includes her two dogs, Marbles and Kermit. Here is a link to her videos http://www.youtube.com/user/JennaMarbles?feature=CAgQwRs%3D. Just a little heads up, she tends to swear a lot and she talks about some innapropriate things. Her videos would not be for children so keep that I mind if you plan to start watching her videos. The next person  that I am going to talk about for this category is Glozell. Her most famous video would probalby be My Push Up Bra Will Help Me Get My Man Back. What makes her so funny is the way that she talks and the things that she says. Some of my favorite quotes are "I needa get my lip balm cuz my lips be crusty crust", "I have died my hair with some Koolaid, its ghetto but less dramatic", "I got my little exercize clothes on and Ima tell him that I'm doin palates or somthin, it will make me seem more white." You have to watch the video to see what I am talking about because the way that she pronounces the words are really funny. She also has a video called The Cinnamon Challenge where she tries to do it but she uses a soup ladel instead of a teaspoon of cinnamon..... you can imagine what happens. Here is a link to her videos, httphttp://www.youtube.com/user/glozell1?feature=CAQQwRs%3D.

So if you are ever having a bad day just watch one of these videos. I will probalby do another blog about other videos because there are so many funny ones. Also if you run out of good things to watch try looking on talk shows like Ellen, I know that she likes to have a funny you tube video every once in a while. If you end up watching one of these videos let me know what you think by leaving a comment. As always, thanks for reading. :)

I'm Confused...

Hello, Everyone I hope you all had a good weekend. This weekend I went to a movie with my cousin and brother. So that is what I am going to start with talking about today.

First of all the movie was called Total Recall. I am going to come right out and say that I didn't understand this movie at all. After the movie was over my cousin and I looked at each other and said "what?". If you have ever seen inception it is very much like this movie in the fact that you don't know what is real and what is not. The main character finds out that he isn't who he think he is and that his whole life as he knows it is a lie. This makes the movie really confusing and hard to follow. There is also a lot of action and it is really fast paced. Somewhere in the middle of the movie it lost my interest and I thought that it dragged on for way too long. Once you think that you have finally figured out what is going on, everything changes and isn't reality. I have concluded from watching this movie and inception that I don't like to think too hard about the movie that I am watching. Anyway enough of my complaining, if you liked inception then I would recommend this movie for you.

So last week was the season premiere of Glee and X Factor. Glee was so good this week, I loved the way that you got to see some of the seniors that graduated and meet some new characters. I thought that it was a great way to start off the new season and over all I was really pleased. I started to tear up when Kurt left for New York and he told his Dad goodbye. Which brings me to my next topic, Simon Cowell getting choked up during one of the auditions for X Factor. I liked Demi's comment at the end of the audition when she said "Awe, you do have a heart". That audition was one of the saddest that I have ever seen and I have watched every season of American Idol and X factor. The girl's name is Jillian Jensen and she was bullied throughout high school and she puts all of that emotion into the song that she sings. It makes you wonder how someone If you haven't seen it yet, go watch it on youtube, it was amazing.

To recap, if you are like me and do not want to have to think to hard about movies then don't watch Total Recall and  I don't care who you are you all need to go watch Jillian's audition. So as always, thanks for reading and have a good week! :)

My Addiction

Hey guess what?!? I know what I'm going to talk about today! Don't get too excited. It is kind of personal... I have an addiction.

It is to Stumble Upon (here is a link for it http://www.stumbleupon.com/ ) and Pinterest ( http://pinterest.com/ ). They both basically show you things that you might like on the Internet.  I have had a Stumble Upon account for a while now but I just got a Pinterest last night. Stumble Upon is a website that asks you what your interests are and comes up with things that you might like. I really like this website for recipes. There are a lot of categories to choose from and you can have as many interests as you want. Stumble Upon is pretty straight forward. You hit the Stumble Upon button and you can either give that page a thumbs up or a thumbs down and it will use that to update what it will show you next.

I don't know a whole lot about Pinterest but I'm going to do my best to explain it. All you really do is pick a category that you want to look at and then you just scroll down to stuff that is in that category. This website is a little different than Stumble Upon when it comes to how to sign up. For Pinterest you have to be invited or invite yourself which is what I did. Anyway when you like something you repin it and then it is on your wall or you can just like it. I think that this site has a pretty good selection of things too.

It is so much fun to explore on these websites, I love it. It can change your life though because you will never get any work done on the computer because you are repinning or liking something on these sites. I just thought I should share my fascination with you. Thanks for reading :)

Everything.

Hey, So this blog will be a little bit of everything because I just haven't decided on one topic for this blog. Get ready this blog is going to be a little bit crazy because I don't really have a plan.

I guess that I will start with the book that I am reading right now, The Help. I haven't seen the movie yet because I am waiting to finish the book. This book is a little bit out of my comfort zone when it comes to books because I don't normally read books about history. The reason why I wanted to read it is because I like to read books and then watch the movies. My Mom also has a book club and this was one of the books that they read. So when I finish the book and then watch the movie I will give you a review of what I thought about it.

Some of the books that I am planning on reading are A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard, Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, and maybe Water for Elephants Sara Gruen. Some one in my class just gave a book talk about A Stolen Life and it seemed like a good book. As for the other two books I have just heard that they were good and they were both made it to movies.

Oh, this week is a pretty big week for T.V. shows. X-Factor started last night and Glee starts tonight. I had to work last night so I didn't get to watch all of X-Factor but the part that I saw was pretty good. Although I am a little confused as to why they are starting out on a stage with music. I thought that they started auditions with out music and not in front of anyone except the judges. Maybe I am getting confused with American Idol. Anyway, from what I saw last night I really liked Brittany Spears as a judge and Demi Lavato seemed to be a good pick too. I wasn't sure how they were going to fit in the show but I think they are doing pretty well. I can't wait for Glee tonight! I have to work tonight too but I'm hoping to watch a little bit tonight. I am excited to see how it  goes without some of the original characters. I will probably talk more about this when I see it and as the season progresses.

Before I forget I would like to address the issue of wearing boots when it is still fall. In the Midwest we have been having some up and down weather but that does not mean that it is acceptable to wear your uggs yet. I don't know if this is an issue anywhere else but when I am walking around school I see people wearing their boots and then the next person is in flip flops and shorts. I am all for expressing yourself with fashion but it's not cold enough yet and therefore you shouldn't be wearing boots just yet. I know that in my school it can get pretty cold but I'm just not ready for the boot season yet.

I think that this wraps up my blog without a topic. Next time I will be less crazy about the topics that I will write about. So, thank you for reading and make sure to comment if you have any thoughts or questions. :)

Honey Boo Boo

Hey, This blog is going to be about a new TV show that is sort of controversial. This T.V show had more viewers than Bill Clinton's Democratic National Convention speech the other night
(according to huffingtonpost.com). So you would think that this show would be about something especially important but nope it is about a bunch of fat rednecks. Yep, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo had more ratings than Bill Clinton's speech. Isn't that unbelievable? That says something about what our nation likes to do with our spare time.

For those of you that don't know Honey Boo Boo is a reality T.V show on TLC. It is about a little girl named Alana, who was on Toddlers and Tiaras. What's so special about this one toddler vs all of the other pageant girls? She and her family are overweight rednecks. Each of the family members have their own nickname: Alana is Honey Boo Boo, her sisters names are Lauren (Pumpkin), Jessica (Chubbs) and Anna (Chickadee). Her dad, Mike is known as "Sugar Bear" and her mom, June is known as Mama. Oh, and I can't forget "Glitzy", Alana's pet pig. These aren't the only things you might have trouble with understanding in this show because the family has a deep southern accent. The whole show is about their redneck lives and a behind the scenes to Alana's pageants.

I have seen about three episodes so far of this show. There are a lot of funny moments such as when Alana's pageant coach asks her if she knows who Elvis is and she simply says, "yeah, Santa's helpers". I however find it pretty disturbing that our nation would rather watch a bunch of fat rednecks instead of Bill Clinton's speech. Just having the show air shows that you can make just about anything a T.V show.

When I first read this I instantly thought that I need to blog about this. I would love to hear what you have to say about this. So let me know by commenting, I really appreciate your opinions. If you ever have a topic for me to talk about let me know that as well. Thanks for reading:)

Buried Life

Hi everyone, I just want to let you know this will be a rather short blog just becuase I have been really busy with work and today is a beautiful day outside. So i want to go out and enjoy it. I also have alot of homework that  I have kind of been neglecting.

Anyway, yesterday after I got off work I was searching netflix looking for something new to watch and I found a pretty cool show. It is called the Buried Life. It is a few years old I think and it was on MTV. It is about four young guys crossing stuff off of their bucket lists but everytime they do that they help out a stanger cross something of theirs. The episode that I watched was where the guys had to make a toast at a strangers wedding. I thought it was kind of a neat show. It's one of those shows that make you want to go cross something off your bucket list. It is also really cool becuase they help someone else too. In the episode that I saw they helped an older man reunite with his nineteen year old son that he hadn't seen since he was two. So if you are looking for something good to watch on netflix you should check out the Buried Life. Oh, and before I forget make sure to comment and let me know if you have seen any cool shows on netflix, I'm always looking for something else to watch.
Thanks for reading!:)

Hunger Games and Maze Runner

Hey, this week I am going to write about some of my favorite books. I love to read books that have been turned in to movies. I’m sure you have all heard about The Hunger Games but a series that you might not have heard about is the Maze Runner. They are very similar in that the main plot is that children are fighting to survive in a utopian world.

If you haven’t read, seen or heard about The Hunger Games I am going to give you a little preview of what it is about. Like I already said, it takes place in a future utopian world. It is after there has been a tragedy in North America, so they come up with something called districts. Everyone is divided up in to 12 districts except for those fortunate enough to live in the capital. Every year there is a competition called the Hunger Games where all of the districts have to send a boy and a girl that is 12 and 18 years old. The whole goal of the games is to be the last one living. That is just a very brief description of what it is about. I prefer the book rather than the movie but they did an amazing job with creating the movie. I think that this is one of the best books turned to movies. The movie is one that will make you laugh, cry and jump.

The Maze Runner is a lot like the Hunger Games so if you enjoyed that then I highly recommend this series. I have heard rumors that this series will also be turned in to movies and I hope that is true. This book takes place in a utopian world where there is a group of boys that live in a place called the glade. It is sort of like campsites surrounded by enormous doors that open and close around a maze. There are monsters that live in the maze so it is bad news if you get locked out of the glade. When the boys wake up for the first time all they can remember from their other life is their name. They have no idea how they got to the glade or who their family is. This book is full of mystery and surprises. The question that is a main part of this book is why? If you have read this series you know what I’m talking about.

I’m sorry if these descriptions are confusing but I don’t want to give away too much. These books are also hard to explain. Anyway if you like to read series and books that are turned in to movies I would highly recommend these books. I know that when I read them it was hard to stop. I made my Mom read the Hunger Games even though she only reads romance books and she was surprised at how much she enjoyed it. She has yet to see the movie but I think that she will really like it. This is a good example that you don’t have to be a certain age to get in to these books even though the characters are younger. I know that after my Mom read it she noticed that a lot of her friends were also reading it. So don’t be intimidated if you don’t read these types of books or you think that you are too old because it is about teenagers.  So, thanks for readingJ

New Seasons

Hey there, I'm not sure about you guys but I have been seeing a lot of previews for t.v shows that are starting new seasons and I'm super excited about it. Modern Family happens to be one of my favorite shows. If you have never seen it I would highly recommend it because there is a little bit of everything for just about any personality type. This show is just about a family that is a little dysfunctional. First you have Jay who is the grandpa and Gloria, his much younger wife. Jay has one child with Gloria named Manny. He also has two kids from a previous marriage Mitchell and Claire. Mitchell is gay and has a husband named Cam. They adopted a little girl, Lily. Claire is married to Phil and they have 3 kids, Haley, Alex and Luke. I'm sorry if that is really confusing but the show is just about their lives and I had to tell you who everyone is. If you already have watched it can you believe the commercials for the new season? I was so surprised by “Gloria” saying that she is pregnant. I am so excited to see what happens this season. I think that the reason that I and so many other people love this show so much is because we can all relate to someone on that show. It is also one of those shows that will just make you laugh even if you have had a bad day or are in a bad mood.

The next T.V show has also been showing commercials for their newest season but this show has a younger audience than that of Modern Family. It is Glee. I know that a lot of people don't like it because they don't think that they sing as good as the original artist but they do a really good job. I also think that this show can easily be related to by high school students because there is someone in Glee that represents a group that you might fall into at school. What I mean by this is that there is a cheerleader, a Gothic person, nerd and jock just to name a few groups represented in this show. If you haven’t seen Glee at all it is on netflix so all I ask of you is to at least watch an episode and see what you think. Like Modern Family this show has me wondering what is to come.

This is probably one of the best things about this time of year. I guess the main point I am trying to get across is that everyone needs to try something new. What have you got to lose? These are only two of the many shows that I am addicted to so I am sure that I will be blogging about some of them too. As always, thank you for reading! :)

The Biggest Fashion No-No Ever!

Hey, now that you know who I am, I am going to get back to the good stuff. This blog will mainly be about one of the biggest fashion no-no ever. My intention with this is not to offend anyone. This is just my opinion so you are open to interpret it however you want to but you should consider my advise if any of this applies to some of the things in your closet.

This mainly pertains to the younger generations but should be considered by everyone, BUY CLOTHES THAT FIT YOU! This means that you are not wearing clothes that are way too big for you claiming that you are “saggin”. It is not attractive to see people with pants half way down their legs or shirts that go way too low. If this is you try going to a store and finding some clothes that actually fit you. A simple test you can try to tell if your pants are too big is jog up and down the street and your pants fall down to your feet that means you need to go down a size. On the flip side of this please buy clothes that are not too small for you. It is not cute to see your muffin top spilling over your skin tight jeans. If you buy the right clothes you can actually hide some of that unwanted stomach fat instead of draw everyone’s attention to it. Ladies don't put everything out there, I think you all know what I am talking about. I am tired of seeing things that I don't really want to see when I am in public, or ever for that matter. I'm sure you have all seen someone with their pants falling down or in a shirt that it about ready to rip open.

If you try buying clothes that fit you will defiantly notice the difference and if you don't I'm sure that everyone around you will appreciate it. You should also feel a lot better in clothes that are the correct size. So if you are looking at those old jeans that are either too big or too small, take it to the local goodwill and go get some jeans that fit! Thanks for reading and I hope that you go treat yourself to some clothes that fit. :)

Who is Katie Wolfe?

Hello, so I was reading my previous posts and I realized that I have said that I will tell you a little bit about myself but I really haven't at all...oops. First of all I am 16 years old and I am in 11th grade. I live in the Midwest and go to a big high school. I have one brother whose name is Brandon, he is in 8th grade. Brandon and I are really close and we like to hang out together. At school I am involved in soccer, speech and I am class secretary for my grade. Outside of school I like to read, take pictures and play soccer. I have a part time job and I babysit on weekends. I also like watching movies and cooking. Which is why I chose to blog about them.

I also have a yellow lab named Bogo who is about 8 years old and is a big baby. My dog isn't a normal dog by any means, he has had a knee replacement and is blind. So we have to help him around sometimes but it is kind of weird because he wasn't always blind and he adjusted fairly well. We were the ones that needed to get used to it. I love animals and I am a “dog person”.

Anyway, that is more about who I am in case you were wondering. I planned on doing this in my last two blogs but I got kind of side tracked as you will notice about a lot of my blogs. I think that I have already mentioned this is my first blogging experience and I am open to any kind of suggestions. Thank you for reading I really appreciate it!

Movies That Will Make Ya' Cry

Hello again, so I just want to tell you more about myself and what I plan to do with this blog. First of all I love movies and TV shows, as do most people. I also like to think that I know a little bit about fashion, so why not talk about it? This was my thought process when I decided on what to do with my blog. Going back to movies and TV shows I like to watch just about anything and I am always looking for new things to watch. I love everything from comedies and horror to dramas. I like a little bit of everything.

In Language Arts class yesterday we read and discussed an essay called “The Crying Game”. It was about how much crying happens in sports. Also this weekend the Notebook was on TV. So of course in this blog I am going to talk about movies that will make you cry.  First of all there are always the obvious tear jerkers like “Titanic”, “The Notebook”, and “Marley and Me”. Speaking of “Marley and Me”, I refuse to watch just because I have a yellow lab and I am such a cry baby when it comes to movies. So I can’t give you a very good description of what it is about. Another type of sad movies are ones that are the last in the series such as the last “Harry Potter” and the last “Men in Black”. The story is sad and then it is the last one of that series so it adds to the sadness.

So here are some descriptions of some of the saddest movies that I have seen. I think I will start off with the “Notebook” and I will try to do this without giving away too much information in case you haven’t seen it yet. It starts off with an old man telling a story to an old woman who is in a nursing home whose memory fades more and more every day. He tells the story of Allie Hamilton (Rachel Mcadams) and Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gossling). They meet one night at a carnival and start to become friends. They spend all summer together and their friendship turns to romance.  The whole movie is going back and forth between the old man telling the story, about Allie and Noah. Like I already said, I don’t want to give too much away but if you haven’t seen this movie make sure to go watch it as soon as you can.

I’m sure that everyone knows what the “Titanic” is about and if you don’t it’s time to learn some history. Having said that, a lot of people think “why should I watch the movie when I know what happens?” I think that it is a great movie because you get to see how everything happened and you really get to experience what it must have been like. Even though I have seen the movie multiple times I still end up balling by the end. I think that it is so sad because it really happened. I know that movies are never as factual as they should be with things like this but it is enough to make you understand.

To conclude this blog I would just like to say that if haven’t seen these movies you should defiantly check them out. I know that there are a lot of sad movies out there and I have only scratched the surface. Everyone needs to watch a sad movie every once in a while. So if there are some good sad movies that you have recently watched let me know and I will watch them and then blog about them. Thanks for readingJ

Sunday, August 26, 2012

Hey, all of you bloggers out there! My name is Katie Wolfe and this is for my Ap Language Arts class as if those two things weren't obvious enough in my title. This is my first blog and I am really excited about it! I remember watching movies where the main character blogs such as, "Julie and Julia", which is about the infamous Julia Child. I thought it was cool that Julie would go online and write whatever she wanted to.(Whenever I think about blogging I think about that movie.) Anyway, this blog will mainly be about entertainment but there might be alittle bit of fashion in there too and of course, anything that is blog worthy that happens in my life. I hope that you will continue to read this if those topics interest you in any way. So thank you for taking the time to read this it means alot to me. :)
